Linda Mack, founder and president of Mack International, a premier retained executive search and strategic family office/human capital management consulting firm, co-chaired the Family Office & Private Wealth Management Forum-West. The forum was held Nov. 7-9 in Santa Rosa California at the Hyatt Vineyard Creek Hotel and Spa.  

“Harvesting the Future” was the theme of the event produced by Opal Financial Group as part of its Private Wealth Series for family offices. “The forum explored the challenges and opportunities associated with investing in emerging markets, alternative investments, real estate, direct energy and other asset types,” explains Linda Mack.

“Other sessions addressed tax and regulatory issues, asset protection and fiduciary responsibilities of consultants, family offices and family members,” Linda Mack adds. “This is the first year Opal has offered a west-coast forum to serve the growing number of family offices in California and the northwest.”

The forum was geared to family offices, multi-family offices, high-net-worth individuals and consultants. Representatives of asset management firms, insurance companies, broker-dealers, law firms and service providers were also in attendance.

In addition to serving as the forum’s co-chair, Linda Mack co-led two closed-door family breakfast sessions. She and Lisa Gray, managing member of Graymatter Strategies, LLC, facilitated a session titled Family Governance and Sustainable Wealth: Planning for the Next Generations.”

Linda Mack and Lisa Gray also co-facilitated a closed-door breakfast roundtable discussion titled “Structuring a Family Office.”  Linda and Lisa invited three other family office industry experts to join them as roundtable panelists to engage family participants in an interactive discussion about key trends, challenges and best practices in structuring a family office to enable the family to successfully achieve their objectives. The three panelists were:  John P.C. Duncan, Esq., Partner, Duncan Associates; Thomas Handler, Chair of Advanced Planning and Family Office Practice Group, Handler Thayer, LLP; and Natasha Pearl, CEO and Founder, Aston Pearl.
