Linda Mack of Mack International moderated a panel entitled “LP Perspective: Investment Officer Roundtable” at the OPAL Group’s Alternative Investment Summit held in London, U.K., February 4-5, 2019.

Linda Mack of Mack International recently moderated a panel at the OPAL Group’s Alternative Investment Summit held in the U.K. at London’s Marriott Hotel Grosvenor Square. The summit was attended by Family Office leaders, Private Wealth enterprises, Asset Allocators and Consultants interested in or experts on global investing. Adaptive Risk Management, Global Outlook and Monetary Policy Options and Risk Based Taxonomy of Crypto Assets were the subjects of the three Keynote Addresses framing the conference. 

Linda’s session was entitled, “LP Perspective: Investment Officer Roundtable.” Panelists included Eirian Jones, Head of Investments, Wren Investment Office (MFO); Antonio Curia, Executive Director, Wimmer Family Office LLP (MFO); and Heath Davies, CIO, Islandbridge Capital Limited (MFO). The panel focused on sharing their perspectives on opportunities, risks and trends they are observing in the investment market. “Each of the panelists brought interesting global viewpoints and assessments to the conversation,” said Linda.

Geo-political risks and those related to monetary policy were discussed. The panel noted how world trade and monetary policies and decisions directly influence investors. Inflation was cited as a long-term potential risk along with the behavior of some investors—specifically their complacency. However regardless of anticipated risks, the panel agreed ample opportunities exist for savvy investors.

Generational and cultural differences and dynamics were topics of interest such as the development of new trends in alternative areas such as impact investing. Linda commented, “The next generation (millennials) are viewing the world from an investment perspective quite different from older generations.” Continuing trends are being noticed in direct private equity investing, co-investing and club deals. The panel expected these to strengthen into the future.

A lively interactive discussion between the audience and the panelists took place at the conclusion of the session. Linda enjoyed moderating the broad range of expertise represented on the panel.
