Those attending benefited from networking with their peers and educational opportunities from esteemed speaker faculty.
Sessions featured discussions for investors and operators; closed door meetings on projects and funds; lessons learned from multi-generation family offices; and information on finding the right “match” when considering joining club deals.
Linda Mack was the panel facilitator for a topic entitled, “Making Decisions for the Whole Family.” Panel participants included, Sara Hamilton, Founder and CEO, Family Office Exchange; Andrew Pitcairn, Family Council Chair & Board Member, Pitcairn; Pierre du Pont, Partner, HPM Partners; and Glen Johnson, Managing Director, Mirador Family Wealth Advisors. “The panelists each discussed a key theme impacting decision making and governance during the evolution of a family enterprise over the course of multiple generations.”
Ms. Hamilton began the discussion with an overview of the growth and development of the family enterprise over time. She also described how families deal with change, contrasting those who embrace it with those who resist it. Mr. Pitcairn talked about managing family expectations when setting goals and timeframes, followed by Pierre du Pont’s insights on preparing for family transitions and succession. The theme of recognizing the value of each family member and making sure all voices are heard was presented by Glen Johnson. Sara Hamilton addressed the final theme stressing the importance of developing a collective vision for the future of the family and family enterprise.
