Delegates from Latin America, North America and Europe attended the conference.

Linda Mack moderated a session titled “Investment Trends and Cycles.” Panelists included: Eduardo J. Ramos, president of Freedom Advisory, LLC; Andrew Hubert Willman, founder and managing partner of Aurum Capital Partners, SA; and Thomas J. Handler, managing partner of Handler Thayer, LLP.

“Panelists discussed their views regarding Latin America—and specifically Brazil—in terms of ‘at what point’ they see their respective investment and business cycles,” Linda Mack explains. “They also offered opinions as to what extent Brazil’s growth is tied to that of the commodity cycle.”

“As night follows day, markets and asset classes have historically been cyclical,” one of the panelists commented.

“The panelists shared their thoughts on where they think Brazil is in its growth and development cycle—and its prospects for future expansion as a function of commodity growth and demand, as well as growth on a broader economic basis,” says Linda Mack.

“Panelists discussed the impact of commodity demands from China as a basis for growth. One panelist remarked that Brazil has ’emerged’ and he now considers Brazil a ‘developing market’ vs an ’emerging market,'” she adds.

Conference participants investigated a range of critical investment issues, including the macroeconomic environment of Latin America, the risks and rewards of alternative investments, asset allocation methods, the future of commodities and the landscape of other emerging international markets.

The forum also presented sessions on technological change and social innovation, evolution of multi-manager platforms in Latin American markets, opportunities in global real estate, distinguishing Brazil from other emerging markets, and hedge funds in Latin America. There were discussions on the Latin American private equity market and infrastructure, as well as fixed income and credit.
